Yes; Calbright College employees participate in the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) or California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS), a defined benefit retirement plan through the State of California. Employee pension, benefits vest after 5 years of service. 

Upon hire, and based on California Education Code, we review and then initiate the process of sick leave transfer from a previous community college, school district or county superintendent of schools if eligibility criteria is met.

While Calbright is a fully remote community college, employees must be located within the state of California or be willing to relocate. Employees can work from any California-based home location. 

Each of our positions may have their own unique timeline. In general, once applications are received, they are screened to ensure they meet the minimum qualifications for the position as noted on the position description. We then assemble a selection committee which is composed of department representatives, subject matter experts, and an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) representative. Candidates who meet the minimum qualification are then forwarded to the committee who will score the applications using a predetermined scoring rubric. Candidates receiving the highest scores will then be invited to an interview. If you are selected to interview you will be contacted by a member of the HR team.

Applicants who have completed college or university course work at an institution outside of the United States that is not a post-secondary institution accredited by an accreditation agency recognized by either the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) must obtain a complete evaluation of foreign transcripts, degrees, and other relevant documents. This documentation must be submitted upon offer of employment. Calbright College will only accept verification from any of the listed member agencies found at www.naces.org or www.aice-eval.org

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa. 

Since we do not conduct in-person interviews, having your camera on is one way that we can get to know you as a candidate.  You are encouraged to blur your background or put up a background filter, but just as we want you to see us, we would love to see you too.  It helps to make our conversations more engaging.  If you are unable to have your camera on due to internet connection issues or if you to request another form of accommodation, please reach out to human resources at hr@calbright.org.

We do not have a referral program, but it is important for you to let us know if you are related to a current employee or have a relationship with a Calbright team member.

All interviews are conducted via Zoom and should take approximately 45 minutes. The questions will be asked by the committee members and they will also appear on the screen. The selection committee will not ask follow-up questions so it is important to answer each question completely. While you will not have the opportunity to ask questions during the formal Q&A, you will have the chance to ask any questions or provide any additional information you may have at the conclusion of the interview. 

At Calbright College, we are committed to inclusive and equitable hiring practices which are included in each phase of the hiring process. To ensure that we are upholding the aforementioned principles we provide regular training to all selection committee members on Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) practices and lowering barriers in hiring, as well as  regular training on topics centering on diversity, equity, and inclusion, accessibility and belonging. We assemble diverse selection committees, include an EEO Representative on every committee to ensure each candidate is treated fairly throughout each step of their candidate journey, and regularly review our practices and hiring outcomes so as to measure and adjust as needed

Once your application has been submitted, it will be reviewed by a member of the human resources team to ensure it meets the minimum qualifications as outlined in the job announcement. Those applicants who meet the minimum qualifications, will be shared with our selection committee. The selection committee will then use a predetermined assessment criteria to score each candidate. Those candidates receiving the highest scores will be invited to an interview. Interviews will be held via Zoom and generally take at least 45 minutes, but may be extended depending on the position and interview process. The screening committee will then evaluate each interview and those candidates receiving the highest scores will be invited to a final round of interview.  

Most, but not all. Classified employees are represented by the California School Employees Association (CSEA), Chapter #53. Faculty, which include instructors and academic success counselors, are represented by the Calbright Faculty Association (CFA). Management and Confidential employees are not represented by a union.
