Dr. Alma Salazar

Remembering Calbright Trustee Dr. Alma Salazar

Calbright College is deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Alma Salazar, whose tireless work on behalf of California students inspires us towards greater urgency and action.

“Dr. Salazar saw in our work together and in all things a path forward for social justice and equity, leading efforts across the public and private sector in service of communities across California,” said Calbright President & CEO Ajita Menon. “Her knowledge, support and advice were guiding lights for all of us, and our thoughts and prayers are with her family as they navigate this loss.”

A founding member of Calbright’s Board of Trustees, Dr. Salazar was also Senior Vice President at the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, overseeing initiatives in education and talent development.  Dr. Salazar was a leader both statewide and nationally including serving on the Board of the National Skills Coalition.  In 2012, Governor Jerry Brown appointed her to serve on the California Workforce Development Board, the same year she received the American Memorial Fellowship by the German Marshall Fund of the United States — one of many prestigious awards and honors she earned.

She will be remembered for her incredible work as an indefatigable champion for social and economic justice, bridging the work of the business and education communities to create better lives for innumerable Californians.  Her life has lifted us up, even as we grieve her loss.
